Leadership & Faculty

Meet the leaders and faculty behind our programmes, teaching, and research.

From the Chairperson's Desk

The Management Centre for Human Development (MCHD), established under the Prof. Shitangshu Kumar Chakraborty Memorial Trust, is a humble yet determined effort to carry forward the timeless vision and life’s work of Professor S. K. Chakraborty—one of India’s pioneering thinkers on Human Values, Indian Ethos and Ethical Management.

During his distinguished tenure at the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and throughout his lifelong intellectual journey, Professor Chakraborty consistently emphasized that true progress for humanity cannot be achieved through material prosperity alone. He believed that sustainable development requires a harmonious integration of body, mind and spirit, where ethics, compassion and inner balance become central to leadership, governance and organisational excellence.

The events unfolding across the world today—increasing stress, social fragmentation, environmental crises and ethical decline—have only reinforced the relevance of his ideas. It is with this conviction that the Trust was formed in 2019 to preserve, promote and expand his philosophy among students, scholars, institutions, professionals and society at large.

Despite the severe disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Trust continued its journey through online Executive Development Programmes, publications, research initiatives and intellectual collaborations with reputed academicians, industry leaders and institutions in India and abroad. Several monographs, books and scholarly articles on leadership, spirituality, sustainability and value education have since emerged from this collective effort.

In 2024, we took an important step forward with the formation of the Management Centre for Human Development (MCHD) as a focused institutional platform for research-based training programmes and structured educational initiatives. The Centre seeks to address critical contemporary issues through the lens of human values, Indian wisdom traditions and sustainable management practices.

MCHD’s areas of engagement include Human Values, Stress Management, Indian Leadership Models, Body-Mind Synchronisation, Ethical Governance, Environmental Consciousness and Sustainable Development. Our newly developing campus in Bhowanipore, Kolkata, is envisioned as an eco-conscious academic and training space equipped for both physical and online learning.

We are fortunate to receive the guidance and voluntary support of distinguished scholars, administrators and professionals from across the world who share Professor Chakraborty’s vision of value-based human development.

As we move ahead, we warmly invite like-minded individuals, institutions, corporates and well-wishers to join us in this meaningful journey. Together, we hope to build a platform that nurtures responsible leadership, inner well-being and a more compassionate, sustainable future for society.

FROM THE FOUNDER MANAGING TRUSTEE & DIRECTOR (ACADEMIC)

The Management Centre for Human Development (MCHD) was established with the belief that progress depends not only on better management systems but also on better human beings. At a time when material advancement often outpaces ethical and spiritual growth, MCHD seeks to promote leadership founded on human values and Indian ethos.

The Centre carries forward the vision of Professor Shitangshu Kumar Chakraborty, whose work demonstrated that excellence in organisations and society is rooted in character, self-discipline, compassion, and self-awareness.

A guiding principle of MCHD is the Indian concept of Rajarshi Leadership, which combines the responsibility and action of a Raja with the wisdom and self-mastery of a Rishi. This model views leadership as service, ethical conduct, balanced decision-making, and responsibility towards society.

MCHD translates these principles into practice through research, education, training programmes, publications, and intellectual dialogue. Its areas of work include Human Values, Stress Management, Indian Leadership Models, Sustainable Development, Body-Mind & soul Synchronisation, and Ethical Governance.

The Centre serves as a platform for scholars, professionals, institutions, and students committed to value-based leadership and human development. It aims to nurture individuals who can contribute meaningfully to organisations and society while fostering a culture where knowledge, character, and service go hand in hand.
